What we learn on our journey to motherhood from conception to birth has the potential to profoundly effect who we become. For many of us it goes beyond how we mother and changes our lives forever. We are the doulas, the midwives, the childbirth educators, the women supporting our sisters through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. When I met Ina May at the Farm Midwifery Center just after she finished "Birth Matters" she told me never to give up making things better for my sisters and I don't intend to any time soon.
Birth has not changed since the beginning of time-our attitudes and methods may have changed but women have always been able to birth our future without much fuss. I believe birth is a natural, normal, and powerful process. I have confidence in each woman's ability to give birth in a way that is empowering for her. I believe women and their babies should be nurtured through their pregnancies, supported through their births, and mothered through their postpartum.
